Latvian kokles at the opening of Aarhus 2017 – European Capital of Culture
During last week, the group from Cesis visited Denmark to play three concerts on the traditional Latvian stringed instrument – the kokle. On Tuesday the 17th, the group performed a concert in Gl. Rye in collaboration with the initiative RETHINK the Village.
On the 20th and the 21st of January, the group gave concerts at Musikhuset in Aarhus. On both Saturday and Sunday afternoon, the group performed as part of the initiative Flaskepost til Fremtiden (Message in a bottle for the Future).
On the night of the 21st, the kokle group from Cesis performed together with Danish students and the Danish band D.u.K. at the RETHINK Folk Music / FOLKAmok-event which took place at the venue HeadQuarters. The Latvian-Danish unison created a night of dance, jam and party far into the night.
The collaboration between the Latvian kokle group and the Danish Rethink Folk Music was initiated by the Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
